Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday said it did not rule out bringing a no-confidence motion against the United Progressive Alliance government in the coming session of Parliament.
The party also said that it will insist on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's resignation on the Quattrocchi and Bihar assembly dissolution issues.
Left, Opposition train guns on govt
"We have not ruled it out. When the time comes, the National Democratic Alliance will decide on what and when to do it," BJP leader V K Malhotra told reporters after a luncheon meeting hosted by Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee for leaders of all political parties in Parliament. He was responding to a question on the Samajwadi Party's threat to bring a no-confidence motion.
"You cannot have a no-confidence motion with 30 or five people. The Left, which has been outwardly opposing the government on various issues, should support it instead of betraying the people," he said.
Samajwadi Party had earlier threatened to bring a no-confidence motion against the government on the Iran nuclear issue and the Telugu Desam Party had supported it. The Left parties have ruled out supporting any no-trust vote.
The BJP had on Tuesday endorsed the government's vote against Iran at the International Atomic Energy Agency meeting. Malhotra said the NDA will aggressively and effectively raise issues, including the headcount of Muslims in the Army, price rise, Foreign Direct Investment in retail, wheat imports, farmers' suicide and petroleum price hike.
