Union Minister of State for Coal Syed Shahnawaz Hussain on Sunday suspended four officials of the Bagdigi and Katras Choitudih mines for negligence in the recent accidents.

Meanwhile, three more bodies were recovered on Sunday, taking the toll in the Bagdigi mine accident to 16.

The minister, who visited both mines on Saturday, instructed the authorities to suspend deputy chief mining engineer A K Sengupta, ex-assistant survey officer R N Kundu, and assistant survey officer R C Dass for lapses that led to the trapping of 30 miners in the Bagdigi mine at Dhanbad.

Bhola Mahato, shot-firer at the Katras Choitudih mine, was also suspended. One miner was reportedly trapped on February 9 in the mine.

Hussain, accompanied by Jharkhand Industry Minister Pasupati Nath, also announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 150,000 to each of the families of those killed in the Bagdigi mine accident. He also announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 50,000 to Salim Ansari, the sole survivor of the accident.
