"The US is demanding that Laden be handed over to it. This is impossible and the Taleban will never hand him over," Musharraf told the daily Al Khaleej in an interview.

He said Laden's trial in a third country by Islamic judges was not impossible, given that two Libyan suspects in the Lockerbie bombing case were tried in a Scottish court in the Netherlands.

"They (Taleban) also do not mind if the trial takes place in Pakistan or Egypt. But they also say there is no evidence against him and nobody has provided them with evidence."

He said the Afghanistan's militia wanted a solution to this issue, "but the question is how".

"The Taleban are ready for dialogue and a solution should be discussed realistically in a way that brings together the two extreme positions," Musharraf said.

The US accuses Laden of masterminding the 1998 bombing of its embassies in Kenya and Tanzania that killed 224 people, including 12 Americans. It wants Afghanistan, which is hosting Laden, to hand over the Saudi dissident for trial.
