Three men blinded in Bihar

Soroor Ahmed in Patna

A mob on Wednesday gouged out the eyes of three men in Sighna village in Bihar's Nawada district. One of those blinded later died of his injuries.

The incident came to light on Thursday after the victims were brought to the Patna medical college hospital.

The three men were spraying fertiliser in a field when a mob attacked them, alleging that they were involved in the rape and murder of a 37-year-old woman.

However, the victims protested their innocence and told rediff.com that they had been made scapegoats by upper caste Bhumihars of Sighna village to shield the real culprits. The victims belonged to the neighbouring Patori-Mansagar village.

Doctors said the victims would not recover their sight.
