Court issues arrest warrant
against Benazir: PTI

Rustam Ali Malik, a judge of the Rawalpindi Accountability Court, issued a second non-bailable arrest against Bhutto in the assets reference case, directing the authorities to ensure implementation of court orders.

The orders for arrests were re-issued after police officials informed the court that they could not serve the court's orders on her as she was abroad.

The Pakistan People's Party chief has been staying abroad ever since the previous Nawaz Sharief government instituted a series of cases against her and her husband Asif Zardari for allegedly acquiring assets disproportionate to her sources of income.

Zardari, who was imprisoned in Karachi in connection with various civil and criminal cases too could not be produced in court as he was admitted to a hospital in Islamabad for a medical check-up.

The court later adjourned the case for February 20 after issuing a directive to the hospital authorities to inform the court whether he could be produced or not.

The arrest warrants against Bhutto came in the wake of media reports that she planned to return home later this year to lead an agitation against the Gen Pervez Musharraf-led military regime to hold early elections.
