Film, small screen production to resume from Sept 25

E-Mail this report to a friend

Feature film and small screen production activities in Karnataka will resume from September 25, ending the voluntary shut-down following the abduction of film icon Dr Rajakumar by forest brigand Veerappan.

Announcing this to reporters in Bangalore on Saturday, Karnataka film chamber of commerce president K C N Chandrashekhar said the decision was taken at a meeting of office-bearers of all associations and the action committee of the film industry. He also noted that Dr Rajakumar had appealed to the industry to resume its activities as early as on August 25.

Chandrashekhar said a 'silent procession' would be taken out in Bangalore on September 21 by the entire Kannada film industry in order to bring more pressure on the Centre and the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu governments to secure Dr Rajakumar's release at the earliest.

A memorandum would be submitted to Karnataka Governor V S Ramadevi, urging 'speedy and concrete action' for securing the early release of Dr Rajakumar and three others held hostage by Veerappan, he informed.
