Dr Rajakumar turned down security

E-Mail this report to a friend

Kannada matinee idol Dr Rajakumar, who was abducted by dreaded forest brigand Veerappan on Sunday night, had turned down security offers despite repeated warnings from the Karnataka police.

His son, Raghavendra Rajakumar, who was present at the press conference addressed by Chief Minister S M Krishna today in Bangalore, said the police had last year visited their house and offered to provide security cover whenever his family passed through Mysore.

The offer was made after notorious forest brigand Veerappan threatened to kidnap the actor and his family.

Dr Rajakumar had brushed aside the suggestion stating that he did not possess any valuables and wore only a shirt and adhoti. He had also stated that he would talk to Veerappan if he confronted him.

The family, however, had on two occasions informed the police about their plans to travel and security was provided, Raghavandra said.

But as days passed and things cooled down, they found security was not important because Dr Rajakumar always had his men following him wherever he went.

Dr Rajakumar had also stopped visiting his farmhouse in Gajanur, from where he was abducted, for sometime. However, he this time he was keen to see the new house.
