AIADMK MPs watch Tamil film as Opposition dream crumbles

E-Mail this report to a friend

Most of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham members of Parliament were watching a Tamil feature film on television today when the Opposition efforts to form an alternative government failed.

The MPs, including parliamentary party leader S R Muthaiah, were glued to the television at the 16th floor lounge of Maurya Sheraton hotel when Congress president Sonia Gandhi had met President K R Narayanan.

They were left speechless when informed by a few media persons that Sonia had announced that her party did not have the numbers to form the government.

''We would watch the situation closely,'' was the reaction of Muthaiah despite the fact that any further development in the Opposition camp was unlikely.

The MPs were watching Mahanadhi, a box-office hit starring Kamal Hasan and Sukhanya.

Jayalalitha did not come out with her reaction to the developments despite a media request.

Also, the AIADMK chief, who either used to visit other party leaders or receive some of them at her hotel room every day, had for the first time since she arrived in New Delhi last fortnight no meeting with any one except Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy.
