20 killed, 41 injured in bus accident

Twenty people, including nine students of a higher secondary school, were killed and 41 others injured when a school bus collided with a city bus at Ariapatti Vilakku, near Valandu, on the Madurai-Usilampatti road in Tamil Nadu.

Police said six students and 10 passengers of the city bus, including a woman, died on the spot. Three more students and another woman succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

The private school bus from Theni was proceeding to the famed Azhagarkoil near Madurai on an excursion when the accident occurred. The state-owned city bus was on its way to Sholavandan from Usilampatti.
