Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan
It took a while for Saif Ali Khan to find the limelight. Having a nasal voice -- and his mother, Sharmila Tagore's nose -- didn't help matters, and the nawab's regal bearing often came off as effeminate.
Then came Sameer Malkan's 1994 remake of A Hard Way, Main Khiladi Tu Anari. Casting was spot-on, with Kumar in the James Woods tough-cop role and Khan doing Michael J Fox's bratty-star routine.
The film worked, the actors clicked, and several films spun off with the pair, most trying to keep the 'good-cop, dude-cop' act in place. The duo reunite next year in Tashan.
