Pushpaka Vimanam/1988: Kamal Haasan, Amala, Sameer Kakkar, Tinnu Anand, Pratap Pothen, Ramya Krishnan and others. Directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao

An unemployed youth stumbles on a rich, comatose drunk. Acting on impulse, the youth steals the drunk’s identity while keeping him incarcerated, and grabs himself a taste of the rich life.

With a romance and a murder attempt as the main plot points, the film pushes the envelope on situational comedy.

The film is peppered with interesting characters. That the director (who also wrote the story) and the lead star came up with a comedic caper that, inter alia, functioned as a scathing critique of the rich-poor divide would be enough to recommend this film.

That they did it without recourse to dialogue makes this film a classic, in any 'language'.
