After shunning plans of International School of Business and Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, to set up campuses in the state, the Maharashtra government is actively pursuing Georgia Technical University, Stanford University along with other big European universities to set up their campuses here.
State chief secretary D K Shankaran announced this while addressing the valedictory session of the Maharashtra Economic Development Council on Wednesday.
Shankaran said, "The state's infrastructure has been major factor which attracted industry to Maharashtra over other states.
"But the state needs to upgrade its educational infrastructure to meet changing needs of the industry.
"And it is in this context that the state is having talks with Georgia Tech and Stanford."
It may be recalled that ISB and IIM-A had called off their plans to open campuses in Maharashtra because of the state government's reservation policy.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of seminar, Shankaran added, "These institutes want to enter into the field of technical, management and legal education in India."
