12 Madhya Pradesh MLAs in the fray for Lok SabhaAs many as twelve sitting legislators in Madhya Pradesh are contesting the Lok Sabha polls from different parties. Two are legislators from the same parliamentary constituency. Devendra Tekam (Congress) and Hira Singh Markam (Gondwana Gantantra Party) have filed their nominations in Mandla. The Congress legislators in the fray are former chief minister Shyama Charan Shukla (Mahasamund), Mahendra Karma (Bastar) and Devendra Tekam (Tekam). From the BJP camp, former chief minister Sunderlal Patwa who is currently representing the Bhojpur assembly seat is trying his electoral luck from Hoshangabad. The BJP legislator from Mungawali, Deshraj Singh, has been fielded from Guna to take on Congress general secretary Madhavrao Scindia. The Bahujan Samaj Party which has 12 MLAs, has fielded two of them. State party president Dauram Ratnakar is contesting from Sarangarh. Ratnakar was also an aspirant for this seat in 1998. Another sitting legislator of the BSP Phool Singh Bariya is the party candidate from Gwalior. Ashok Vikram Singh, a sitting legislator of the Samajwadi Party, is contesting from Damoh. Janata Party legislator Kankar Munjare is in the field from the Seoni parliamentary seat. As an independent, Munjare had earlier won the 1989 Lok Sabha elections from Balaghat. The lone legislator of the Gondwana Gantantra Party, Hira Singh Markam is trying his luck from the Mandla seat. In the last election, Markam had entered the fray as an independent from Janjgir and lost his security deposit. Two independent legislators, seeking to enter the Lok Sabha are Professor Gopal Ram (Sarguja) and Dr Sunilam (Betul). UNI
