BJP on a winning streak in MP

The Bharatiya Janata Party has won six seats and surged ahead at 19 places while Congress nominees secured a lead in nine constituencies in Madhya Pradesh.

Former chief minister Motilal Vora of the Congress has lost by more than 25,000 votes to his nearest Bharatiya Janata Party rival in Rajnandgaon. The BJP has wrested the seat from the Congress.

Laxman Singh of the Congress defeated Nitish Bharadwaj of the BJP by 65,693 votes in a multicornered contest in Rajgarh. The Congress retained the seat.

Ashok Agral of the BJP defeated Gopal Das of the Congress by 62,226 votes in a multi-cornered contest in the Morena (SC) seat. The BJP has retained the seat.

In Khandwa, Nandkumar Singh Chauhan of the BJP defeated Tanwant Singh Keer of the Congress by over 125,000 votes in a multi-cornered contest.

Gajendra Singh Rajukheri of the Congress defeated Harsh Chouhan of the BJP by more than 25,000 votes in a multi-cornered contest in the Dhar (ST) constituency.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan of the BJP defeated Jaswant Singh of the Congress by 82,359 votes in a multi-cornered contest in Vidisha.

Baliram Kashyap of the BJP defeated Mahendra Karma of the Congress by more than 20,000 votes in a multi-cornered contest in Bastar (ST). The BJP retains the seat.

Laxmi Narayan Pandey of the BJP defeated Rajendra Singh Gautam of the Congress by more than 54,000 votes in a multi-cornered contest in Mandsaur. The BJP retains the seat.

Uma Bharti of the BJP defeated Congress Seva Dal chief Suresh Pachori by 120,000 votes in a multi-cornered contest in Bhopal. The BJP retained the seat.

Punnilal Mohle of the BJP defeated Rameshwar Kusmaria of the Congress by 75,333 votes in a multicornered contest in Bilaspur (SC). The BJP has retained the seat.

Tarachand Patel of the Cong defeated Balkrishna Patidar of the Bjp by 35,000 votes in a multicornered contest in Khargone. The Congress wrested the seat from the BJP.

Jaishree Banerjee of the BJP defeated Chandra Mohan Das of the Congress by 109,000 votes in a multicornered contest in Jabalpur and retained the seat.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh said the Congress could not counter the propaganda unleashed by the BJP in the state.

Former Union minister Kamal Nath of the Congress defeated was leading by 189,019 votes over his nearest rival Santosh Jain of the BJP in Chhindwara.

"We could not match their campaign," he said, adding that their propaganda through opinion and exit polls had apparently influenced the floating votes. He also pointed out that since the electorate was polarised in MP, a swing of just one or two per cent could make a big difference.

BJP vice-president Sunderlal Patwa has secured a lead of more than 7,000 votes over his nearest Congress rival Raj Kumar Patel in Hoshangabad.

Union Labour Minister Dr Satya Narian Jatia (Ujjain-SC) and Union Minister of State for Steel and Mines Ramesh Bais (Raipur) were ahead by margins of 6,000 and 9,000 votes respectively.

Congress veteran and former chief minister Shyama Charan Shukla, who is making a maiden attempt to enter the Lok Sabha, is leading over his nearest rival Chandra Shekhar Sahu of the BJP in the Mahasamund constituency by a margin of more than 5,000 votes.

Sohan Potai of the BJP defeated Chhabila Arvind Netam of the Congress by more than 80,000 votes in a multi-cornered contest in Kanker (ST) constituency. The BJP retains the seat.

Earlier, the first result declared in the Lok Sabha elections in the state went in favour of the BJP when its candidate, former Bajrang Dal president Jaibhan Singh Pavaiya wrested the Gwalior seat from the Congress.

Pavaiya defeated Chandra Mohan Nagori of the Congress by 86,116 votes. The seat was earlier held by Congress general secretary Madhavrao Scindia in the dissolved 12th Lok Sabha.

Former Union minister Madhavrao Scindia of the Congress defeatee his nearest rival Rao Desh Raj Singh of the BJP in Guna.

State Congress president and Rajya Sabha member Radha Krishna Malaviya is trailing behind Thavar Chand Ghelot (the sitting BJP MP) in the Shajapur constituency, reserved for the scheduled castes.
