SGPC chief deplores disrespect for women in campaignShiromani Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee president Bibi Jagir Kaur today said no political leader should show any disrespect to women or leader of any political party while campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections. Talking to reporters, she welcomed the direction of the Election Commission to all political parties and candidates against making any disrespectful and undesirable remarks about their opponents. Referring to Bhai Ranjit Singh's Hukamnama against Shiromani Akali Dal president and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal which he had refused to withdraw even at the request of SGPC members, Bibi Jagir Kaur said only those ''Hukamnamas were valid and acceptable which were proper and right.'' She said when the SGPC meets in November it must review the situation arising out of Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Puran Singh's view of not withdrawing such Hukamnamas. Later, addressing an election rally at village Daulatpura in Baghapurana assembly segment of Faridkot Lok Sabha constituency in support of SAD-BJP alliance candidate and Union minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, she called upon the electorate to vote in favour of the alliance candidates. Terming the present Lok Sabha election as a choice between Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, a person of foreign origin, as prime minister of the country, she asserted that a person of foreign origin should not be allowed to rule the country. Moreover, as compared to Vajpayee, Gandhi had no administrative experience, she said. Bibi Jagir Kaur blamed the Congress for the downfall of the Vajpayee government at the Centre and claimed that only the National Democratic Alliance could provide a stable government. UNI
