The International Cricket Council has given umpires power to reduce the length of intervals between innings following the no-result between England and New Zealand on Wednesday.

The second one-dayer between England and New Zealand ended without a result after the rain-affected match was abandoned one over short of getting a result.

"Where the innings of the side batting first is delayed or interrupted, the umpires will reduce the length of the interval," the ICC said in a statement.

On Wednesday, there was a 30-minute interval between the innings even though much of the day's play had been washed out.
