Trescothick misses out on century
Opener Marcus Trescothick hammered 93 to put England in command on the second day of their game against the Governor's XI in Peshawar at Shahi Bagh stadium on Thursday.
At stumps England had reached 240-5, with a lead of 16 runs and five wickets in hand.
Alec Stewart made a fluent 59 before falling in the dying minutes of a day lengthened to make up for lost time on day one.
Trescothick, the 24-year-old Somerset left-hander, batted with authority and hit 16 forceful boundaries and a sweetly timed six off a Kashif Raza bouncer.
Dropped at 38 at fine leg by Taufiq Umer off the luckless Raza, Trescothick completed his half century in 156 minutes off 103 balls.
The home team's miseries were compounded by some sloppy fielding as they floored six catches.
Captain Rashid Latif dropped Michael Atherton, who was eventually out for 22, off Sajid Shah when he was 14 while Stewart's chance was spilled at 15 in the gully by Akhtar Sarfraz off Kabir Khan.
Restarting at 150-3 after tea, Trescothcik cut loose with 10 fours to race to 93 before he danced down the wicket and was stumped by Latif off Mohammad Hussain.
"It was a rush of blood when I got out. It's hurt me ever since I got out as I could have scored another century," said Trescothick, who reached triple figures in the first warm up one-dayer in Karachi.
Stewart, batting for the first time after he was named in an Indian match-fixing report last week, hit a boundary off the third ball he faced.
His 50, brought up with a fluent cover drive off Imran Farhat, included two towering sixes off Mohammad Hussain.
Stewart added another 63 for the fifth wicket with Graham Thorpe who remained unbeaten on 26.
Earlier in the day, captain Nasser Hussain looked good for his 15 but was unfortunate to be adjudged leg before wicket off Khan by umpire Iqbal Butt.
In the morning the Governor's XI resumed at 173-5 but were wrapped up within 72 minutes.
Yasir Hameed added just one run before he was caught off a mistimed drive at cover by Vaughan off Andrew Caddick for 57.
Burly left hander Mohammad Hussain topscored with 65, studded with ten boundaries.
Gough finished with 3-54 while Giles, Craig White and Caddick took two wickets apiece.
England begin their Test series against Pakistan in Lahore on November 15.
