Azhar banned for life; Jadeja for 5 years

The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Tuesday slapped life bans on former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin and Delhi batsman Ajay Sharma for their involovement in match-fixing.

Ajay Jadeja and Manoj Prabhakar, the others named in the CBI report on match-fixing, have been suspended for five years, BCCI president A C Muthiah informed, after the disciplinary committee meeting in Madras on Tuesday.

Former team physiotherapist Dr Ali Irani also received a five-year suspension, while wicketkeeper Nayan Mongia and groundsman Ram Adhar were exonerated.

All have been given a chance to appeal against the punishment, Muthiah said.
